If I were to sum up the overall message of the book in a few sentences, it is that all life experiences, especially the difficult ones, are here to help us grow into the fullest version of ourselves. As difficult as it can be at times, life really is unfolding for our highest good.

My experience with breast cancer taught me this. It has been a journey marked by many ups and downs but I wouldn’t change a moment of it. Although life still has its challenges, I have never felt a greater sense of meaning and purpose. It has awoken me to my true nature and brought me to a place of deep, inner contentment that is beyond compare.

I hope that by sharing my story, it will prompt you to embark on your own journey of growth and expansion. I hope it will help you reframe difficult experiences and provide you with more supportive and empowering ways of relating to life. Ultimately, I hope you discover your inner power, speak your truth and shine brightly as the highest version of yourself.

In the book I take you on my personal journey - from getting the life-changing news that I had cancer, to surrendering to it and ultimately choosing a path of transformation. It taught me that despite the inevitable pain that comes with growth, life really is happening for us, not to us.

When we shift to this perspective, we have a totally different experience of life, we see through our conditioning and limiting beliefs. We become stronger and more anchored in our inner power. We no longer live as victims. Instead we realise that we are powerful creators of our reality.

Then there is no stopping us! That is my wish for you.

The book is written in three parts, reflecting the different stages I went through:

Part 1 – Healing
The story of my life pre-cancer, the inner journey it sparked and the healing it brought about, not just in my body, but my life.

Part 2 – Transformation
What my cancer experience taught me about life. I share how I integrated the learning (and continue to do so every day) and found a new way of being in the world.

Part 3 – Co-Creation
I share lots of practical tools and exercises to support you. I hope they help you expand and embrace your innate ability to powerfully create your life.

I have included a short extract from the book below. I hope you enjoy reading it.

Preface

It started with a gentle nudge but soon took on a life of its own.
Writing about my experience with breast cancer proved very cathartic.
I found a way to express myself and process everything that had happened.
This book though is not only about this experience.
It is also a reflection on my life and the personal challenges I faced long before cancer.
It is about the insights and discoveries that I made along the way.
It is about finding a new way of living that has brought me great joy.
I hope that by sharing my story it will give you a new perspective on any difficulties you may be facing.
Once I started writing it evolved organically, as has my life throughout this writing process.
As my story illustrates, there are always warning signs in our life, indicators that are guiding us to make change for our highest good.
The topics I cover reflect what I needed to learn so that I could live in a healthier way and I know that the lessons will continue as long as my life unfolds.
I can see now that every experience was needed to give my life meaning and help me come into my purpose. Breast cancer was the ultimate manifestation of the many times I had disowned and dishonored myself and kept myself small in the world.
I needed to heal my life.
I realize that we are all meant to shine as the highest version of ourselves.
We are unique in what we came here to express and we should never dim that light just to fit in.
I don’t regret any experience in my life.
Each one has made me who I am today. If I have one wish, it is that you may come to recognize your own magnificence and find your unique way of expressing it in the world. That is the greatest gift of all.

May you find the wisdom to listen to your illness,
ask it why it came,
why it chose your friendship,
where it wants to take you,
what it wants you to know,
what quality of space it wants to create in you,
what you need to learn to become more fully yourself, that your presence may shine in the world.

Praise for Gifts from the Devastation

For anyone who has struggled, whether with cancer or another trauma, this book is a must read. Celine takes a radically different perspective on dealing with devastation, charting how she believes life happens for us, not to us. In an increasingly hectic world, Gifts from the Devastation is a call to try something different. It is a message worth listening to; a message of hope.
Sarah McInerney, RTE Broadcaster and Journalist

This book brings gifts to all of us who need to refresh our lives if we sense we are not living to our full potential. It is also relevant to anyone experiencing a significant life disruption.

Dilis Clare, Consulting Medical Herbalist & General Practitioner
MBBCh, DRCOG, B.Sc. (Hons) Herbal Medicine

I would highly recommend this book to anyone struggling to overcome difficult life circumstances and who wants to learn practical ways of overcoming the inevitable challenges that life can throw at us.
Tony Óg Regan, Holistic Performance Coach and former Galway hurler

A short reflection on the inner journey that many of us feel called to go on at some point in our lives. Although it is impossible to capture and will be a unique experience for each of us, I do believe there are common threads that unite us as human beings.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month reminds me of how far I have come General location of post

It is hard to believe that it is more than four years since I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Now every year as October approaches, I am reminded of how lucky I am to be healthy and well. I am also reminded of how shell-shocked I was when the consultant first broke the news.

Back to nature General location of post

I owe much to nature. It has been a great teacher to me, particularly during the quiet days of lockdown. As I took time to stop and look around on my daily walk, my body relaxed as it sensed the stillness that is at the heart of everything.

Taking centre stage in your life General location of post

Have you ever felt that the best version of you is just waiting in the wings for their cue to come on stage? For many years I did. I held a very limited view of what was possible for my life, dismissing many long-held dreams that called from deep within.

The power of community General location of post

I'd never really thought about community or its importance in my life until I got sick. I moved through life unconscious of the environments I was in, the company I kept and the impact it had on me. Now more than ever I value being around like-minded people who lift me up.
